What About the Biscuit?

Thus far the gravy has gotten all the glory. But what about the biscuit? If there is no biscuit then what is the gravy for? I have in desperation used toast with gravy....but it's a poor substitution for a hot, flaky and buttery biscuit. The two just go together...biscuits and gravy. Like pb and j they just belong in a union. But the gravy necessitates the biscuit. This morning's church bulletin titled the sermon "Biscuits". Well our pastor never did bring up biscuits while preaching but it did get me thinking.

Jesus is the biscuit. Without that biscuit the gravy has no foundation! For me and my home, the foundation is Jesus, and all the other stuff of life is the gravy. Family, friends, home, jobs, money; it's all gravy baby. It all rests on the biscuit. Gravy is a beautiful thing but without something to smother it on you just have a bowl of gravy! No one takes a spoon to a bowl of gravy a la carte. Personally I need some Jesus to pour the rest of my life on! Now I realize that this is not the case in all homes. But something is your biscuit. What is it?

In this season of giving and loving, try to keep your "biscuit" at the center of your purpose. Christmas is a beautiful time, smother your loved ones with goodness! Don't forget to take care of yourselves too. Moms are too often guilty of giving until we drop, and stretching ourselves too thin. Slow down, reflect and say thanks. This season is wonderful but so busy! Work parties, school concerts and parties, friend's get-togethers, family gatherings, santa visits, church! Phew, it's a lot crammed into one month. But the meaning of the whole season is showing love and acceptance. People around you are thankful for who you are. I am thankful for family and friends, coworkers and church family. You all are my very special gravy. But I am very proud to say Jesus is my biscuit!
